Written initially by Judith Pappas Zaffirini especially for the children at the Senator Judith Zaffirini Elementary School, this is the story of a girl from the barrio who grew up to be a senator, a businesswoman, and a PhD. To inspire and motivate students who face difficulties, Dr. Zaffirini describes why children used to laugh at her, how the boy who initially rejected her eventually helped her grow from getting straight F's to earning straight A's (and later married her), and how she overcame other difficulties similar to theirs.
